In Thailand and especially in Chiang Mai you can find many elephant sanctuary’s. Unfortunately you have to be careful which sanctuary you will choose for a visit. Because in some, the elephants are not treated very good. For example is riding an elephant the worst thing you can do to them. But the
Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary is very good. The elephants are living in the jungle and every morning they are coming back to the camp to get their bananas. Feeding the elephants was one of the best things I did in Thailand. The elephants suck up the bananas with their trunks. It tickles a bit when they are touching your hand when they reach out for the bananas.
Their skin feels very thick and rough. After stroking an elephant you really know why they are called
pachyderm. Overall, they are very lovingly animals and it very sad to know that in some sanctuary’s they do not have a good life.
